Reading this interview with Kutz changed my opinion on why curriculum of books recommended to be read in high school has changed (see previous post).
Kutz argues that omissions and forbiding things is the best way (mechanism) of creating modern intelectual elites. ("Wykluczenia i zakazy, proszę pani, to najlepszy mechanizm tworzenia nowoczesnych elit intelektualnych.") I have to agree with him - forbiden fruit tastes the best... (zakazany owoc smakuje najlepiej). I already see crowds of eager intellectuals with glasses on thier noses reading "Faustus" under their blankets in the candle light... Eh, sweet childhood times...
